Animal Can Caused Human Diseases? these human diseases passed from animals to man are called zoonoses or zoonotic illnesses, such as bird flu and tuberculosis, can wreak havoc on the health of both organisms. In this post a number of fairly unknown zoonotic diseases which, although rare, still infect hundreds or thousands worldwide each year. human Diseases from livestock and other animals are infecting humans at a higher rate than ever,
Causing at least 2.5 billion illnesses and 2.7 million human deaths per year, according to a new study. They are ones that come to my mind as I write this article. You do not want you to read this article and become fearful of owning animals. The conditions which I discuss are quite rare. Living life to the fullest has its risks but a little warning on your part is all that is required.
Dengue Fever
Dengue is a mosquito-borne infection found in tropical and sub-tropical regions around the world. In recent years, transmission has increased predominantly in urban and semi-urban areas and has become a major international public health concern for human diseases. The incidence of dengue has grown dramatically around the world in recent decades. Over 2.5 billion people – over 40% of the world's population – are now at risk from dengue. WHO currently estimates there may be 50–100 million dengue infections worldwide every year. (WHO)
Dengue spreads from one person to the other by a special Dengue Mosquito. This mosquito grows up and multiplies primarily in fresh water, artificial house hold containers. These viruses are related to the viruses that cause West Nile infection and yellow fever.
Dengue Mosquito is usually found indoors i-e in houses near the floor/under beds, chairs and sofas. It’s found through insect studies that it usually bites near the time of sunrise and sunset, and hence at these times maximum preventive measures against the bites of mosquitoes should be taken.
Doctors can diagnose dengue infection with a blood test to check for the virus or antibodies to it.
Cat Disease
Cat scratch human diseases, a bacterial infection that causes swelling of the lymph nodes, usually is due to the scratch, lick, or bite of a cat. It is caused by a recently discovered gram negative bacterium called Bartonella henselae & is found worldwide.
It is seen more commonly in children (under 17 years) than adults. Most cases come from kittens, although adults can also pass on the human diseases.
The majority of cases resolve themselves over time and does not require medical treatment with antibiotics, although in individuals with weak or compromised immune systems, such as children and sufferers of HIV, treatment is essential to prevent abscesses, pneumonia and even comas.
Barmah Forest Virus
Barmah Forest virus is transmitted to people by being bitten by a mosquito that is infected with the virus. Symptoms include fever, rash and sore joints. Avoiding mosquito bites prevents infection.
These viruses occur throughout Australia and Ross River Virus human diseases have been found in eastern Indonesia, Papua New Guinea and the nearby Pacific Islands. In Victoria, infection can be acquired in most parts of the State except the highest or driest. Infection does not occur directly from person to person.
With the range of treatments now available, there is a much better chance of finding an effective drug that does not produce troublesome side-effects.
Orf Virus
Orf Virus is a highly contagious viral human diseases that causes painful scabby lesions on the lips and nostrils of affected animals. The human diseases are under-reported since most farmers and veterinary surgeons recognise the condition and do not send samples to confirm the diagnosis.
The scabs caused by the orf virus in and around the mouth and lips od infected animals normally heal without treatment in 4-6 weeks however the lesions can become extensive and spread to other parts of the body and secondary bacterial infections are not uncommon. Since 2001 there has been an average of 40 animal diagnoses per year by Government laboratories. Vaccination may be used for the control of the human diseases in sheep.
The researchers have been working with one viral protein in particular that may prevent efficient recognition of the virus by the sheep immune system. Work is underway to determine whether vaccines that exploit the properties of this protein may provide a positive way forward.
Black Fever
Black Fever is a deadly human diseases transmitted via the bite of an infected sand fly. It usually develops over several months or years. If black fever is not treated, it can be fatal.
The most common symptom is a lengthy fever that can last weeks or months. Patients may also lose their appetite and may suffer weight loss as a result become fatigued, develop anemia some patients suffer with diarrhea and vomiting, especially younger children.
In the later stages, the patient's skin may start to darken, begin losing their hair. If people wait until the later stages before seeking treatment, it is often too late for doctors to do anything.
Bang ’s Disease
Bang's Disease is a relatively rare though extremely dangerous condition caused by an infection that is passed to humans through infected animals such as pigs, cows, goats and sheep. This human diseases is caused by bacteria of the genus Brucella.
Within this category are many species of bacteria, each almost exclusive to a particular animal species. Here is some Symptoms of Bang ’s disease like fever, profuse sweating, headache, fatigue, depression, loss of appetite, irritability, cough, chest pain, and upset stomach. It can also affect bones and joints causing arthritis see more
If left untreated Bang’s disease can lead to heart infection and liver abscess—both of which can lead to death—and also lasting symptoms similar to chronic fatigue syndrome. In pregnant women the disease can also cause miscarriages and birth defects.
Bird Flu
Bird Flu also called avian influenza is an infection caused by bird flu viruses. These viruses occur naturally among birds. Wild birds worldwide carry the viruses in their intestines, but usually do not get sick from them. Some domesticated birds, like ducks, turkeys and chickens can become infected with this virus and die. Bird flu is highly contagious among birds.
Signs and symptoms of bird flu typically begin within two to five days of infection. In most cases, they resemble those of conventional influenza, including cough, fever sore, throat, muscle aches also experience nausea, vomiting or diarrhea. This is a very severe disease for humans too, as it can result into the person's death within 9 days. Every time it bursts, bird flu is even more serious because of the genetic mutations that occur within the virus structure. The best known drug against the bird flu is Tamiflu, made and sold by a well known pharmaceutical company. It has been sold and used in large quantities worldwide and it is quite effective.
Cryptosporidiosis
Cryptosporidium is a microscopic parasite that causes the diarrheal human diseasescryptosporidiosis. Both the parasite and the disease are commonly known as "Crypto. The most common symptom is diarrhea, which is usually watery. It is often accompanied by abdominal cramping. Nausea, vomiting, fever, headache and loss of appetite may also occur. Some people infected with Cryptosporidium may not become ill. The incubation period may range from one to 12 days with an average of seven days. In people with AIDS and in others whose immune system is weakened, crypto can be serious, long-lasting, and sometimes fatal.
If you think you have crypto, or if you just have diarrhea, talk with your health care provider about testing and treatment. Diarrhea can cause dehydration. You should drink plenty of fluids to prevent dehydration. Oral rehydration powders and sports-ade drinks can also help prevent dehydration.
Toxocariasis
Toxocariasis is a zoonotic(animal-to-human) disease caused by infection of the parasitic nematodes (roundworms) related nematode species (ascarids) that routinely infect dogs and cats throughout the world.
Once born, toxocariasis typically takes up residence in the intestines and cause moderate headaches, coughs and stomach cramps as well as a high fever should the parasite decide to relocate to an individuals organs.
Toxocariasis is usually transmitted through ingestion of an infective egg in the soil, however recent reports suggest that it may also be transmitted through ingestion of raw meat from an infected chicken, rabbit, or lamb. In rare cases the pathogen may infect the hosts eyes, leading to blurry vision and severe irritation, which if left untreated can lead to permanent blindness.
Q Fever
Q Fever is an illness caused by the bacterium Coxiella burnetii. Q fever is spread to humans from infected animals. Q fever is a worldwide human diseases with acute and chronic stages. Q fever is transmitted to humans by animals, most commonly sheep, goats and cattle. Infected animals often have no symptoms and can shed the bacteria into their urine, faeces or milk.
People usually get infected by breathing in infected aerosols or dust when working with infected animals, animal tissues, or animal products. The main carriers of the disease are farm animals. High-risk occupations include farmers, veterinarians and people who work with sheep in research labs.
People who work with animals or materials that may carry the Q fever bacteria should use appropriate protective equipment and be aware of the steps required to stop the spread of the bacteria for a healthy life. If Q fever recurs, you may need to take a combination of antibiotics for at least 18 months.
Rabies
Rabies is a deadly virus spread to people from the saliva of infected animals. The rabies virus is usually transmitted through a bite. The virus travels from the wound to the brain, where it causes swelling, or inflammation. This inflammation leads to symptoms of the human diseases, mostly rabies deaths occur in children.
Rabies infections in people are rare in the United States. However, worldwide about 50,000 people die from rabies each year, mostly in developing countries where programs for vaccinating dogs against rabies don't exist.
In rare cases, some people may have an allergic reaction to the rabies vaccine. But it is the good news that problems can be prevented if the exposed person receives treatment before symptoms of the infection develop.
